The Golden Baton will continue on to the World Orienteering Championships 2025 in Kuopio

The World Orienteering Championships 2025 will continue the chain of fair play and clean sports messengers of almost 40 international championships held in Finland. The fair play and clean sports challenge campaign organised by the Finnish Center for Integrity in Sports FINCIS was launched already in 2009.

As a fair play event, the World Orienteering Championships 2025 will receive the symbol of the challenge campaign, the Golden Baton, at the opening ceremony on Monday 7 July. World’s best orienteers receive the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships, which took place in April in Helsinki. The baton will be accepted on behalf of the sport by multiple championships representative and World Youth Championship silver medalist Akseli Ruohola.

“I think honesty is one of the most important values in sports. Every athlete sacrifices a large part of their life for sports, so it is important that we start the competition on the same line. Following fair and clean competition is a way of respecting other athletes. When this is done, success feels better”, says Akseli Ruohola.

As part of the challenge campaign, FINCIS will share information on fair competition and clean sports practices at the World Championships at its own information stand. Athletes and the audience can vote for the fair competition athlete of the Championships at the information stand. The athlete will receive an award.

At FINCIS’ stand, you can pick up a flag sticker of your favourite country and “I compete fair and clean” badge. Athletes can test their knowledge of anti-doping matters by answering a Quiz, and the best quizzers will take home a sports water bottle as a prize.

The FINCIS information stand is open in Neulamäki, Kuopio on Wednesday between 1 pm and 6 pm and on Thursday between 10.30 am and 5.30 pm.

The World Orienteering Championships 2025 will be held in Finland for the fifth time and in Kuopio for the first time from 7 to 12 July 2025. The World Orienteering Championships will be held in Northern Savonia for the middle distance, long distance and relay medals. More information about the event: https://www.woc2025.fi/
