International conference on doping in recreational sports gathers the top experts to Helsinki in September

The scientific conference on doping in recreational sports, the 5th Nordic Conference on Appearance and Performance Enhancing Drugs and Anti-Doping Work, takes place in Helsinki, Finland on 24-25 September 2015. The event gathers the scientific community involved in the field to share knowledge on doping in recreational sports and to discuss the diverse aspects of doping in society.

Main conference themes include anabolic androgenic steroids and doping, the risks of nutritional supplements, and the frequency of use of appearance and performance enhancing drugs in recreational sports in Europe.

– The two-day conference offers health care and sports sector professionals and students a unique opportunity to update their knowledge on doping and to network with other experts, says Jukka Koskelo from Dopinglinkki, the organiser of the event. He encourages professionals working in the field of doping in recreational sports to present their research findings and best practices in the poster show of the conference.

The programme includes presentations from 14 keynote speakers, for example, Professor Ron Maughan (Loughborough University, UK), Professor Thomas Hildebrandt (Mount Sinai Hospital, USA), Academy Research Fellow Juha Hulmi (University of Jyväskylä), Professor Susan Backhouse (Leeds Beckett University, UK), and representatives of the Nordic anti-doping organisations.

The Conference is organised by A-Clinic Foundation’s Dopinglinkki, which provides information and expert advice on doping substances, nutrition, and physical activity. Dopinglinkki does not take stand on questions related to the use of doping substances by competitive athletes.
