Teemu Japisson elected as Secretary General of FINCIS

Long-running sports influencer and Master of Social Sciences Teemu Japisson (1966) has been elected as the new Secretary General of the Finnish Center for Integrity in Sports (FINCIS). Japisson will take over after Harri Syväsalmi, who is retiring from the position.

On 1 January 2019, Teemu Japisson will leave his current position as a sports and youth specialist in the Association of Finnish Local and Regional Authorities, where he is responsible for the supervision of municipalities’ interests and for providing service in matters relating to sports and youth. Japisson has previously acted in leadership positions in the Finnish Olympic Committee, in the national sports organisation VALO, in the Finnish sports organisation SLU, in Nuori Suomi, in the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and in the University of Tampere students’ union.

“Japisson has wide-ranging expertise and plenty of experience in leadership in the third sector. He has also gained a varied view of society’s different functions in his previous positions of trust, including those in Veikkaus and in the Finnish State Sports Council. Given his experience, Japisson is well suited to the task of steering FINCIS in the implementation of its new strategy, aimed at building a more sustainable sports culture in collaboration with other operators,” FINCIS Chair Timo Laitinen says.

The Finnish Center for Integrity in Sports (FINCIS) promotes an ethically sustainable sports culture in collaboration with other operators. FINCIS is responsible for implementing international treaties on anti-doping activities, manipulation of sports competitions and spectator comfort and safety in Finland.
