The Secretary General of the Finnish Center for Integrity in Sports, FINCIS, Harri Syväsalmi will be retiring. The public selection process for a new Secretary General will be launched after the summer. Legal Director Petteri Lindblom will act as the substitute Secretary General from 23 July 2018 until the new Secretary General begins.
“I would like to warmly thank Harri Syväsalmi. Harri has extremely significant international experience and an extensive background in different tasks related to sport ethics promotion. With the help of his expertise, FINCIS’s operations have a sound foundation and we are progressing at a brisk pace,” says FINCIS’s Chairman Timo Laitinen.
“FINCIS’s task is to serve and help the whole sports and exercise community. In this co-operation, Harri Syväsalmi’s networks have helped to promote the common cause, nationally and internationally. Harri has raised the themes of ethically sustainable sports culture to the public discussions. This has been essential in raising the awareness of ethically sustainable sports culture,” says Laitinen.
“It has been a privilege to participate in developing FINCIS into a unique organisation, nationally and internationally, in co-operation with professional colleagues and excellent partners. I wish all the best to FINCIS and success in further promoting sport ethics, which is extremely important for the future of sports. After the turn of the year, I will continue my work with these matters through positions of trust and consulting, says Syväsalmi.
The Finnish Center for Integrity in Sports (FINCIS) was established at the beginning of 2016. The purpose of the organisation is to promote ethics in sports and, for its own part, be responsible for anti-doping activities and prevention of manipulation of sporting competitions and promotion of the spectator safety and comfort.
