Laura Lepistö cheers on young skating talents in the first ever World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships
The first official World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships will be organised in Helsinki on 7–9 March 2013. The event plays a part in the message of clean sport and will receive, in recognition, the Golden Baton of Clean Sport from the Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championships. Laura Lepistö, hostess for the star athletes of the Clean Win Programme, will join the programme stand to greet Finnish and international talents.
– The Golden Baton of Clean Sport travels now from one ice to another, and synchronized skaters are now in the same first line with female ice hockey players. We wish all the synchronized skaters a great championships and clean pirouettes,” says Tuula Puputti, the General Secretary of the Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championships, which was organised in Finland at the end of the year.
– The Golden Baton of Clean Sport has already been seen in the championships of synchronized skaters over 18 years old, and it is important to relay the message to our juniors, too. For a long time, Finns have reigned supreme in synchronized skating on international ices, and that is why Finland will settle for no less than gold and silver from the home championships. This sport combines skills, speed, strength and joy in a wonderful way,” says Susanna Rahkamo, President of the Finnish Figure Skating Association.
The Clean Win Programme stand can be found at the World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships in Helsinki, and the stand is open to the public on Friday, 8 March 4.30 p.m.–8.00 p.m. and on Saturday, 9 March 2.00 p.m.–6.00 p.m. Laura Lepistö will pay a visit to the stand on Saturday at approximately 4.30 p.m. The stand is open for the athletes of the championships throughout the competition. At the stand, you can sign the major petition on behalf of clean sport and take part in a lottery. You can also test what you know about doping in the World Anti-Doping Agency WADA’s Play True Quiz at the stand. You can win a brilliant golden drinking bottle as a prize.
The Clean Win programme was launched in May 2008. It honours clean athletes and the values of fair play. FINADA and Fazer want to put the spotlight on athletes who play ethically: respecting their sport, their competitors and themselves. This programme invites Finnish sports fans, sporting organisations, the friends and supporters of athletes and athletes themselves to get involved in fair play.
