An athlete visiting a physician
When visiting a physician, an athlete should tell the physician that he/she is within the scope of doping control. This enables the physician to immediately check the permissibility of the medication. Nevertheless, the athlete him- or herself is always accountable for any medication or method used.
If necessary, the physician and athlete may contact FINCIS when considering the appropriate medication. The Pharmaca Fennica guide also contains further information about prohibited substances and methods as well as therapeutic use exemptions for athletes. Pharmaca Fennica is a medication guide intended for physicians and other healthcare and nursing personnel.
Therapeutic use exemptions (TUE)
If for health reasons an athlete requires a TUE to use a prohibited substance or method, he or she must fill in the TUE application form carefully together with the physician. The physician shall also append the required documentation to the application.
Note! A physician's certificate or prescription on its own does not mean that the athlete has permission to use the prohibited substance or method. A TUE must be applied for following the appropriate procedure.
